Nationwide Fire Service Charity Event

Two firefighters with North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service are planning to embark on a ride around the mainland coast of the UK in the summer of 2008, covering 2816 miles in 14 days. This is to raise money for the Fire Service Benevolent Fund through sponsorship for the ride and charity car washes at 14 fire stations along the way. One armed biker's Lands End to John O'Groats classic Matchless run - September 5th

Local Motorcyclists Charlie Balmforth & Gordon Pocklington are riding a pair of 1950s Matchless motorcycles from Lands End to John O'Groats raising money for local charities. Charlie from Caistor is riding a 1953 Matchless G9 500cc, now over 70 & missing his right arm, has just spent a week riding around the North York Moors. He is raising money for Caistor LIVES. His running mate Gordon Pocklington, from Saxilby, is a year older and deaf will be riding a 1955 G80S 500cc single and is raising cash for the Saxilby branch of the Royal British Legion Welfare Fund. The back up is being provided by another classic & vintage bike fanatic Geoff Eyres driving the support motorhome & trailer. The trip sets off on September 5th.
